Mommy Life

This is what I used to comb my hair yesterday morning after my shower.

Incidentally, that was my last daytime shower during the week. Zen Baby sat in her babyseat in the bathroom and screamed the whole time. And by screams, I used to mean crying, but now, I do literally mean screams. And Little Guy sat out on my bed, as usual, but this time he wrote on my sheet with a pen, opened the back battery panel of my booklight, and other various things. He used to just lay on the bed and watch a Baby Einstein DVD. But now he's three...!!!

Oh my goodness--look what I just bought! Cannot believe she is 6 months old.

Husband's Results

I took the quiz for him. It was accurate. He's from southern Virginia.

What American accent do you have? (Best version so far)

Southern

People used to hate Southern accents but now everyone wants one.

I Love Accents

Saw this at Book-A-Rama. I'd taken one before, but I like this better. The map especially.

What American accent do you have? (Best version so far)

Northeastern

This could either mean an r-less NYC or Providence accent or one from Jersey which doesn't sound the same. Just because you got this result doesn't mean you don't pronounce R's.(People in Jersey don't call their state "Joisey" in real life)

Jealous Mistress

I really need to get back into writing on here again. I miss it. But you know who the jealous mistress is? myspace. Yes. I'm like a seventeen-year-old. It's so freaking addictive. The kids are sleeping better now so I can't blame it on them.

Anyway, I'm reading Alice Adams, the fourth Pulitzer winner. I need to get my notes together on those. Not even necessarily to post, but since it really looks like I'm doing this, I'd like to be a little bit organized.

Off to the beach Saturday.
These are from last year. I can't believe he was only 23 mo. and turned two at the beach last year and now he's turning 3. It seems like such a huge age difference. Yet, interestingly enough, the swimmer diapers are still present. :)

Gone to New York: Book One: Armchair Traveler Challenge

Gone to New York: Adventures in the City is a collection of "Talk" pieces from The New Yorker written by Ian Frazier over a period of about 10-12 years. Ian Frazier is one of my super-favorite literary nonfiction writers. He doesn't work for the The New Yorker anymore, and has since written books such as Great Plains, On the Rez, and Family, all of which I've loved.

Gone to New York gives the reader fascinating snippets of New York life as seen from an outsider of sorts. Although Frazier lived there, he was born and raised in Ohio and was constantly amused. He writes about his obsession with bags hanging from trees all through Brooklyn and Manhattan and what he decided to do about it, his description of Canal Street from one end of the island to the other, and a walk he decided to take from his suburban town in New Jersey to Manhattan via Route 3, plus much more. It's a great introduction to Ian Frazier if you've never read him before. It's fascinating facts, interesting people, and great stories.
